How to Choose Your Abaya or Maxi Dress Size

A size letter is only a starting point. For an abaya or maxi dress, check both the room around your body and where the hem will fall. Use the measurements on the specific product page, as fit can vary by style.

Start with your measurements

With a soft measuring tape, measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level. For your preferred length, measure from the highest point of your shoulder down to where you want the hem to sit. Keep your usual footwear in mind.

Check what the chart measures

Body measurements describe you; garment measurements describe the clothing. Read the chart label before comparing the numbers. When a chart lists the garment's bust circumference, the difference between that number and your body bust is the extra room around your chest, often called ease.

For example, a garment bust of 105 cm compared with a body bust of 96 cm gives 9 cm of extra room around the bust. This illustrates the calculation, not a recommended allowance for every style. The cut, fabric and your preferred fit still matter.

Compare length as well as bust

For this style, moving from M to L adds 5 cm to both the garment bust and length. Check both before choosing. These figures apply only to style 73004; use each item's current product chart for other styles and sizes.

Consider your layers and preferred fit

If you plan to wear a slip or inner dress, allow for it when comparing measurements. Check each product's included pieces; do not assume an inner garment is included. Between sizes? Review the bust, length and any other listed measurements together rather than choosing a larger size automatically.
